iWeb enables your 5250 Applications to Web

iWeb is a unique application that is available world-wide and downloadable from the Web. It enables your 5250 RPG applications to run in a Web based environment or to be deployed to users in a sophisticated graphical format in less than half a day.

  • A highly automated analyzer goes across your DDS and RPG source and re-engineers it for the WEB in minutes
  • Applications can now run both in 5250 mode, as they used to and, under iSeries HTTP server
  • Applications can still be developed in the way they were originally written, using RPG III or RPG IV
  • No prerequisites, no learning curve
  • Only the batch processor is used, WAS is not required
  • Application displays are converted as are main system displays (spoolfiles, messages...)

iWeb runs in any WEB browser and any portal

iWeb is not a terminal emulator or a screenscraper. iWeb bypasses the workstation 5250 changing the i/o process into an OO architecture process and dealing directly with application's data memory. It builds each WEB page in full cooperation with your applications. This is done using a Java applet running within the client browser (Internet Explore, Netscape, or Firefox Mozilla). The Java applet can use the full page of the browser or a part of it, therefore users may take full advantage of the functionality of their WEB browsers.

As 5250 emulation will no longer be required, considerable savings may be made on 5250 licensing costs.

iWeb enhances Web presentation and functions

The simple automatic conversion immediately gives an impressive graphical layout (subfiles are transformed into real java-tables, function keys into buttons etc…). Additionally, converted applications can easily have new GUI presentation and functionality added, through the simple and powerful iWebMaster. iWebMaster is a set of CL commands and templates that allow the addition and control of images, links, buttons, styles, and actions for field or format elements. Using your existing RPG and CL skills and a few basic techniques, impressive web sites can be produced and deployed.

iWeb provides additional utilities for your WEB applications

Three free utilities, bundled with iWEB, will give new functionality to your 5250 applications:

  • iExplore gives full control of iSeries IFS directories and files. A built-in upload facility will provide extensions to existing applications
  • iExcel provides immediate Excel spreadsheets out of existing DB2 databases
  • iGraph provides graphical representations of  DB2 statistical data

iWeb & WebSphere, iWeb & SOA

iWeb substitutes the 5250 architecture with a web based OO architecture, using XML and Java. Investing in iWeb to convert legacy application to have an immediate productive solution does not conflict with WebSphere projects, because the architecture, the communication protocol and the interface are the same. This means that a full conversion can be carried out NOW and then added to the Webshere project simply and quickly at a later time.

SOA – Service Oriented Architecture.
To create SOA servers, WAS is required and sufficient.
To create SOA clients WAS is not necessary. iWeb provides all the functionality necessary to create and interface with SOA clients.

iWeb Performance

The average i/o response time with iWeb is 0.03 second (like google, iWeb shows the response time on the top-right). iWeb substitutes the workstation 5250 to a web OO channel. Therefore the client interface deals directly with pgm memory via a CGI (inherent function of any HTTP server), there is no additional layers, foot print or WAS involved.

The iWeb interface is a Java applet, making it a rich client running in any browser as a plug-in. Behind the scenes, testing made at Waltham IBM Centre demonstrates that iWeb is faster and consume less CPW than scrennscraper.

iWeb free trial

The average time to see a concrete result of a conversion is less than half a day (including iWeb product download and installation). iWeb does not alter original objects or sources. Only converted programs are recompiled and to process them iWeb ask you for a new Target library, therefore you don't need to do a copy of your original libraries.

You may download, install and try iWEB on your iSeries for a given trial period. A sample 5250 interactive RPG demo is also available for download. This demo is design to help you through your first trip through the iWeb world. During the trial you are entitled to full technical support.
