"Many System i customers have an existing inventory of RPG-based green screen legacy applications. These applications have served their business well for many years, but are not as visually appealing nor easy to use by people who are only familiar with Web and GUI interfaces, states Linda Cole, System i Tools Innovation Market Manager.

Galgano Informatica srl, is providing a tool called iWeb that can be used to transform and extend the life of these applications, taking advantage of the existing application function and adding a simpler to use interface.

On the 27th of April 2006, the project manager of iWeb,  Pascal Polverini and the marketing manager Andrea Galgano demonstrated the iWeb tool for the IBM System i Solution Enablement team at the IBM Rochester lab.
The result was an impressive, installation, conversion and demonstration on one of our sample applications that was complete in about 2 hours.

The iWeb conversion step builds a Web interface for the 5250 application, that is easily enhanced through a set of CL commands that  add presentation properties and functions.

iWeb creates a Java applet which runs on the client, no application server is required on the System i. The Java applet can run on multiple types of browsers. With the iWeb utilities is it possible to quickly extend the functions of existing applications

iWeb has been certified as IBM Serverproven and is highlighted on the IBM System i Developer Roadmap.

IBM is pleased that Galgano Informatica srl, is part of the System i Tools Innovation program, as their iWeb product helps customers to enhance, extend and develop applications for the System i."
